How do I verify a specific cannabis license?

Open the official regulator portal linked on that state's page, then search by license number or business name. The regulator's record is the source of truth for status (active, suspended, expired) and expiration date — those can change daily, so check the source directly.

Why only these states?

We list states with an active legal cannabis program (medical and/or adult-use) and a publicly accessible regulator. States with hemp-only or CBD-only programs are out of scope. We add programs as they come online.

Is the regulator information guaranteed current?

Agencies and portal URLs occasionally change. An automated check runs weekly to confirm each portal link still responds — the link-check badge on state pages shows the result and the real date it ran — but the regulator's own site is always the definitive reference. If you find a broken or outdated link, let us know.
